The Hair

So this whole family was just beautiful. They are all photogenic and were lots of fun to work with! But…oh… the hair is what gets me. You’ll see what I mean. No further explaination needed. :-)

Do you see it? I mean, how incredibly fabulous are these curls?!

I mentioned they were fun, didn’t I?

And here is the whole family, looking like some sort of ad in a magazine.

And this last one just makes my heart sing. :-) They were throwing rocks into the water.

Super-Cute Siblings

I recently had the pleasure of meeting these cuties. I have worked with their cousins before so it was fun getting to know them as well. These ages tend to make me sweat but in the end, it usually pays off! I hope you like your sneak peek “E” family!!

This first one makes me laugh.  Look at her sweet little face–not so sure she’s in the mood for a kiss from brother!

This next one is definitely one of my favorites. Hard to explain but it just seems so very boyish to me.

How do you like this little pose? :-)

Giving is Awesome~Sneak Peek

As promised, here is the sneak peek for my Giving is Awesome family. I must admit, I’m struggling to find the perfect things to say about them. For starters, this gorgeous mom of three kids is, by far, one of the strongest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. To say life has not been fair to her is an understatement.

Meet Julie. Her sister-in-law, Terrah, is the one who nominated her for this contest. Terrah wrote a beautiful letter about Julie and told me that Julie had lost her own mother to breast cancer…then lost a brother to cancer.  Julie has pulled through breast cancer not once, but twice. And even more devastating is that she almost lost her own daughter to adrenal cancer a few years ago. Top all of that off with an unhealthy marriage, living in a woman’s shelter with her kids, and then a divorce. Things were looking up for Julie and she was able to move back to Texas to be close to family and friends. As you can see by the pictures, she was able to grow a beautiful head of hair back. Unfortunately, a few months ago, Julie found out she has cancer of the liver–the same day she found out she was one of the employees getting laid off from her new job.

Julie has already started treatment and is losing her hair again. But I think Terrah described her perfectly when she said, “Julie is full of life and is always smiling. She inspires others and is a true, genuine spirit.” See for yourself:

I emailed Julie and asked what she would like this blog post to say. I am so touched, flattered, and honored by what she wrote:

“When my sister-in-law entered me into the contest, in secret, it was a huge gift – more than normal. Because this time, I was starting to lose my hair. I spent 5 years growing it out from the first time I lost it after my diagnosis with cancer. I always had long flowing hair and I loved it. I rarely complained about having a bad hair day, even back then. But now, I am dealing with “very little” hair today! As I shed more hair, I was so thankful to be able to have those photos that I thought might be the last ones where I actually look good. We all face our own mortaility in different ways. But for me, I associate baldness with dying. My family has a cancer problem. Almost every single one of us has had cancer. Most of us don’t survive it.  As I think about surviving, I used to think it meant that I wasn’t ever going to get cancer again. But now, I realize that surviving isn’t only for those who survived cancer. Surviving is just waking up each day – with cancer or without. Today, I wake up with cancer, and I am a survivor. Last weekend, I took pictures with my children that will survive long past what I will. Kristy took part in giving that gift to us. I was so touched by how she made that happen. She is easy to work with, and that must be why her photography is so good. It’s not just about the scenery, the people in the photo, or the camera – that human element with the photographer is what makes a photo. Kristy has that gift, and I am so thankful that she freely shared her gift with us that day. Julie Bates”

Yes, Julie, you are a survivor. And a mother, hero and an inspiration to those who know you. Thank you.
